SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN BRINGS TITLE FOR BUCKS
Michigan Takes PDL-Record Seventh Division Crown With Late Goal

The Michigan Bucks minor league soccer team qualified for the Premier Development League (PDL) playoffs with a 2-1 victory over the Slayers in Toledo on Saturday night and captured their PDL-record seventh division title, finishing one point ahead of Fort Wayne (11-4-1, 34 points), who defeated Indiana (11-5, 33 points), 4-3 on Saturday. Stephan David scored with three minutes remaining to break a 1-1 deadlock, placing the Bucks (11-3-2, 35 points) into the playoffs for a PDL-record eighth time (in nine seasons). Doug Rice opened the scoring in the fifth minute on an assist from Knox Cameron, but the Slayers' Larry Krienbrink equalized at the 25-minute mark of the first half. Toledo's Eric Pogue made 12 saves, while Jeff Wiese recorded six stops in net for the Bucks.

The Central Conference (Great Lakes and Heartland Divisions) playoffs are scheduled for July 23rd and 24th at a venue to be determined on Monday. On Friday, the Bucks will face the Boulder Rapids Reserves (12-4-1), in a re-match of the 2002 Central Conference championship game (won in penalty kicks by Boulder), and the Fever will take on the 17-0-1 Chicago Fire Reserves (who beat Michigan in last year's conference final) in conference semifinal action. The winners will square off on Saturday for a chance to face the Western Conference champion on July 31st or August 1st in the PDL Semifinals. The PDL Championship will be played on August 7th.
