METROSTARS DOWN BUCKS 4-0 IN OPEN CUP
Detroit-Based PDL Soccer Team Hangs Tough For 83 Minutes

Approaching the 83rd minute on Wednesday night at Hurley Field in Berkley, the Mid Michigan Bucks minor league soccer team was within a goal of tying the NY/NJ MetroStars of Major League Soccer (MLS) in a Round III match of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup soccer tournament, but the hometown underdogs gave up three goals in the final seven minutes to fall, 4-0. John Wolyniec slipped a shot past Bucks' keeper, Peter Dzubay (University of Michigan), for the MetroStars' second goal; then forward Mike Nugent and midfielder Jose Galvin added goals in the final three minutes to ice the victory for the MetroStars before a sold-out crowd of 4,010.

MLS All-Star Amado Guevara got NY/NJ rolling just five minutes into the game with a splendid free kick from 20 yards, but the Bucks responded to play MLS' league-leading squad even-up for the rest of the first half. The Bucks had several good scoring chances in the second half, but newcomer Jonny Walker made a couple of outstanding saves in net during the contest to keep the Bucks off the board. "The score was not indicative of our effort," said Bucks general manager, Jim Duggan. "We are extremely proud of our guys, but the MetroStars proved what a class team they are. Their coach (Bob Bradley) had them ready to play."
