BUCKS QUALIFY FOR US OPEN CUP Three Second-half Goals Erase Deficit on Sunday
The Indiana Invaders and the Mid Michigan Bucks, both with 2-0-1 records, were playing for the final Premier Development League (PDL) spot on Sunday evening in South Bend and, for a half, it looked as though the Invaders would earn their first Open Cup qualification in their eight-year history. The 51-team, Division IV PDL receives just six placements. However, a flurry of goals by the Bucks early in the second half erased a 1-0 halftime deficit and will send Mid Michigan to its PDL-record fifth appearance in the 89 year-old tournament. Knox Cameron scored twice and Simon Omekanda finished a nice give-and-go from Stephan David and the Bucks would hold on for the 3-1 victory. The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) will announce First Round match-ups early this week, which are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 4th.
Andy Forestner got the Invaders on the board in the 25th minute, cashing in on a rebound from 16 yards out. The Bucks carried the play in the first half, but could mount only a couple of serious chances on Indiana keeper, Alloy Agu. Peter Dzubay was in net for Mid Michigan, making several key saves in the game. The Bucks return home on May 31st for a regular season Premier Development match against the Columbus Stars at Berkley's Hurley Field.
