BUCKS FIT TO BE TIED, 1-1

Fort Wayne Battles Minor League Soccer Team At Hurley Field Tuesday Night

After scoring 10 goals in their first two games, the Michigan Bucks could get only one past Fort Wayne Fever goalkeeper, Christian Lopez and settled for a 1-1 tie.  The Bucks (2-0-1) had twice as many shots as the Fever (1-0-1), but the home team looked sluggish and out of sync all night.  "It is a very disappointing tie, but we are still alive for Open Cup qualifying," said Bucks coach, Don Gemmell.  The Bucks qualified last season with a 3-0-1 record.  "It comes down to details, being calm and finishing your chances, none of which we did tonight."  Only the top two teams from the 17-team Central Conference advance to the tournament and six are still undefeated.

Fort Wayne kicked off the scoring at the 15th minute on a goal by Dan Broxup, but Knox Cameron answered in the 24th minute on a nice pass from Erik Nelson.  Regulation time finished with a flurry of shots by the Bucks, including one off the crossbar by Simon Omekanda and a point-blank save by the Fever's Christian Lopez on blast from John Minagawa-Webster.  Jeff Wiese made five saves on the night for Michigan.  The Bucks' final US Open Cup qualifier is on Sunday at Hurley Field in Berkley against the Cleveland Internationals (6:30pm).
